A beautiful vintage Korean dresser, it is estimated to date back to the 1970s of the last 20. This one of a kind piece is made of solid wood finished with Black Lacquer. It is hand-inlayed with high quality Mother-of-Pearl (abalone) producing most beautiful colors and reflections.
The dresser is skillfully adorned with gorgeous images of auspicious animals, fruit and landscapes believed to bring luck to the owners. At the top of the large mirror there are three gorgeous peacocks encrusted with Mother-of-Pearl. Only wealthy Korean families could afford such pieces in the recovering after the Korean War economy of South Korea. One of the three existing techniques of adhering of the MOP sheets to the surface has been used? The technique of gluing the sheets of MOP directly to the lacquered surface.
Some MOP sheets have been additionally carved with a special tool to add more intricate details to the images of birds, fruit and flowers. Very rare and hard to find. Made in South Korea by expert craftsmen.One of the magnets is missing on the door. Very small amount of pearl has chipped off on the left side of the mirror, barely noticeable.
