Vintage Library Card Catalog 45 drawers modular design antique furniture

  

I have been authorized by my employer, a public library, to sell this beautiful vintage card catalog. It has 45 drawers, a modular design that breaks into 5 separate units for easy transportation, and two pull-out writing surfaces. Library card catalogs are highly sought, not only by bibliophiles and librarians, but by crafters and hobbyists of all sorts. Complete card catalogs in good condition are increasingly rare, and opportunities to own this charming intersection of furniture history and library science are limited.

This is your chance to get a complete, 45-drawer unit in beautiful condition. This card catalog is solid wood construction, with most outer surfaces covered in a veneer.

I do not know the type of wood (nor what the metal hardware is made of). The five modules, from bottom to top, are. The dimensions of the card catalog when fully assembled are. Height (floor to top of unit): 59 ¼. Depth: 17(not accounting for hardware). I have been unable to find any makers marks on this unit, and therefore have no information about the origin, age, make, or model of this card catalog.

I have found is a hand written 7942 on the bottom of the modules, presumably a sort of serial number to keep all the parts of the unit together. All hardware is complete and functional.

The unit is quite sturdy (and heavy). This card catalog saw daily use in a public library for decades, and has the expected scuffing and scratching but is in very solid shape overall. The veneer is chipped in some places, particularly at the corners.

I have tried to show this in the photographs. Please be aware of where this card catalog is located BEFORE putting in an offer. Ontonagon is in Michigans remote western Upper Peninsula.

Approximate driving times to the nearest cities. Green Bay/Appleton, WI: 4 hours. You will need to get to Ontonagon, and also be able to load the unit with minimal help.
