Antique Massachusetts Federal Inlaid Mahogany Two Part Secretary Bookcase w Key
Federal-Style Two-Part Secretary Bookcase w/ Key. Massachusetts style Federal revival inlaid mahogany secretary bookcase meticulously made in the style of John and Thomas. Features include a pediment crest centered with an inlaid oval rosette, topped with three urn-form finials. The paired glazed doors have Gothic arches over two short drawers resting on a separate lower case with a foldover writing surface above three drawers with brass pulls. The mahogany fronts are framed in crossbanding inlay, flanked by stiles with line inlay that extend to form square tapered legs similarly decorated with line inlay and inlaid cuffs. It comes with a key that locks the three larger drawers and the bookcase doors. Dimensions: 37 Wide, Lower case is 18" Deep, (25.5" Deep with writing surface open), Upper Bookcase is 10 Deep. Combined overall Height is 82", Height of lower case 32.25" H, Bookcase Height is 51 H. Condition: Excellent vintage condition with lovely patina, sturdy, the drawers open and close nicely as do the bookcase doors. Signs of age wear to seam in the green felt writing surface. The three finials have been replaced and the original wood galleries on the sides of the top pediment are missing but not noticeably (shown in close up image), one of the original drawer pulls has a replacement bail and posts (see close up image).
