Large library card catalogs originally used at Yale University's Sterling Library in New Haven, CT. The last image is of identical card catalogs (circled) in place at the library. The unit consists of thirteen rows of drawers that are five drawers across for a total of sixty-five drawers per unit. Two pull out shelves with pencil/pen channel provide a convenient place to write notes or rest one's books.
The card catalog's sections are held together with a neat wood interlocking system but come apart into one 1x5 section, three 3x5 sections, the pull-out shelves, the top slab and the leg unit. This makes it much easier to move them, but they are still heavy and solid. I do not know what year they were built but they were staged at Yale for many long years.
The card catalog is about 18" front to back including the loop of the drawer handle, or 17" measuring just the cabinet. From side to side the card catalog measures 33", and from top to bottom is 72".
