Antique Letterpress Printer's Early Oak Triangle Cabinet for Collectables or Curiosities Display. This piece was used in a letterpress printer's studio. The cabinet originally functioned as a storage space for variously sized blank wooden blocks used in composing movable type for the printed page. The cabinet is sturdy, measuring 31" tall, 10" wide, 10 1/2" deep at bottom, and 2" x 10 at top. There are 56 cubby holes, many of different sizes, heights, and depths. The surfaces have some light scratches, dings, and finish discoloration. In the last photo, in the front right bottom corner, there is a 1/2 inch chip of oak missing. Overall, the original antique condition is very good for an item used in an industrial setting over 100 years ago. From my research online, it looks like this was made by the Carron Company of Ludington, Michigan. Looking carefully in the sixth photo you can see a typographer's ruler attached to the right front edge of the piece.

The cabinet was found in an upstate New York antique barn/warehouse about 10 years ago. While oiling the piece, one of the original blank blocks, or. As it is called in the trade, fell out of the cabinet. This is an example of the wooden blocks that were originally stored in these cubby holes.
