Antique Oak 25 Drawer File Apothecary Country Store Hardware Cabinet

  

One of two 25-drawer antique oak file or apothecary cabinets available! Both cabinets came out of a New York brownstone, but had been used previously in other business settings, including an old pharmacy. This featured file cabinet has been refinished and the beautiful oak quartersawn grain just beams! You don't find new furniture like this these days possessing such craftmanship, durability of construction, let alone such authentic wood beauty. Both ends (sides) are paneled while the back has wide boards.

If you are interested in both cabinets, they would be stunning side by side or back-to-back. The mate currently resides in my home and is being put to good use! The size and number of drawers offers great storage possibilities!

CDs and DVDs fit beautifully in the drawers, as do paperback books and seasonal decorations (for me, at least). Often found in old country general stores, this file cabinet would be ideal for a crafter needing to organize their many supplies; someone who sews, knits or quilts for storage of fabric, thread, yarn, and patterns; or any one who tinkers with tools, salvage parts (door knobs, handles, plumbing components), hardware, or whatever! Any business would appreciate their usefulness for files, storage capacity and vintage charm, but especially private shop owners! There are 20 original cast iron drawer handles that are not only decorative and ornate but also incorporate label holders! These alone are quite impressive! I believe originally a slim piece of glass was used to cover the label.

Alas, we are missing 5 original handles and have replaced all the bottom drawers with less ornate cup handles. This is a genuine antique which by their nature are not perfect, there will be signs of age, wear, & use, but this lends credence to its history.

Drawers do show signs of wear & loss of edges from use over the years. Cabinet measures 59"L X 29" D x 45 1/4 T at its widest point. Interior drawer measurements are 9"W x 5 3/4" T x 25 L. Please review the pictures as they are an integral part of the description.
