Up for sale here is an early David Zork custom built/custom ordered cabinet with a 1914 Victor Talking Machine VE-XVI built in. Zork did many custom orders for his pieces. I consulted an antiques expert and was told this unique piece was very likely custom built for a customer.
He started his business in 1914 in Chicago on Michigan Street. The Victor Talking Machine Electrola VE-XVI series was only made for about 12 months from Dec 1913 and was the 1st electric driven Victor.
The serial #s started with #501 for the VE model and this one is #2100 so was the 1600th made. It plays beautifully as it should.
It has a built in cabinet light with a brass on/off knob, on/off switch and speed control. The built-in speakers are mounted under the player. I see no issues to report with this Victor. The Zork cabinet is very solidly made weighing approx 300 lbs. In the decorative woodwork on the front and across the leg crosspiece is a bit of green tinting.
I tried to capture this in photos. The left side has built in vertical storage areas for records and a shelf. It has some cracks and maybe an old repair to the top front of the left leg but sits solid. The top has a bit of minor surface damage(possibly moisture) and the piece has a few scratches and chips but shows well as seen in photos.
Being custom built in the mid to late teens, this is truly a one-of-a-kind. I have uploaded a video on VIMEO. If you go to their website and search "zork victor", it will come up.The last photo is an original newspaper clipping which is included in this sale. All of my items are stored in a smoke and cat free environment. I guarantee my items and will make it right. Please take a minute to leave it for me if satisfied. Your business is greatly appreciated!
