19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE NEW ENGLAND SHAKER MAPLE STEP BACK CABINET / CUPBOARD. With our highest compliments & honors we're proud to offer for sale this absolutely wonderful 19th century antique Shaker maple cabinet. We're fortunate to have a few great protected Shaker villages in our area and they were a fascinating group. Shakers originated from a division in the Quaker group.

Shakers were ridiculed in England and called the. Term "Shaking Quaker" which eventually shortened to Shaker. The Shakers emigrated to America & established many successful communities. Shaker villages were above all self sufficient & they aimed to live a good, honest, simple, god fearing life. Shaker furniture is not heavily decorated with carvings, imported veneers, or brass hardware.

Furniture was designed to be practical, utilitarian & naturalistic. Would have been decorated were painted surfaces. Had this cabinet retained it's original painted surface we'd be asking about 30k for the cabinet.

Surfaces were regularly cleaned in 19th century homes especially during years of disease & pandemics. The upper section features two glass doors with three interior shelves over two maple cabinet drawers. The lower section features 5 maple drawers with tiger & birds eye maple figuring opposite a paneled cabinet door. The cabinet is pure & correct with our only condition note being the replaced backboards & scrubbed surface.

The cabinet measures 42 1/4" wide x 19 1/2" deep x 69 1/2 tall. The upper section measures 38" wide inside x 13". Depth x 30 tall with removable shelves.
