An impressive antique American Empire step back cupboard, crafted from rich mahogany around 1840, features a distinctive two-part construction. The upper section presents a bookcase with two glazed doors, each adorned with intricate mullions, revealing multiple adjustable shelves. The glass doors are fitted with brass hardware, including key escutcheons. Below the upper cabinet, a drawer with a fitted interior, including small compartments lined with red felt.

The lower cabinet features two solid paneled doors, showcasing the flame mahogany veneer, and rests on four finely carved paw feet. This classical American piece exemplifies the robust forms and fine craftsmanship characteristic of the Empire period in the United States.
