Absolutely beautiful stacking mahogany map, architects, blueprint, flat file cabinet made from solid mahogany with mahogany veneers and solid oak interior drawers by Shaw Walker Company dating to the early 1900's. Shaw Walker has been making high quality office furniture since 1899. This cabinet breaks down into 4 sections. There is the base with legs. Next up is the map section with the 3 drawers, followed by the 18 drawer card file section with a separate top cap piece.
This cabinet sports high quality raised panel sides and has all of it's original hardware such as drawer pulls, interior sliders for the card drawers and the paper label slots. The map drawers also have map holders (which could be removed) for holding maps, blueprints or artwork firmly within each drawer. All of the drawers are solid oak sides and dovetailed front and back.
The card file drawers have their original metal slides and removable wooden liners have been added to each of these 18 drawers to hold smaller items. Overall this cabinet is 36 1/2" high, 41 3/4" wide and 27 deep from front to back including the drawer pulls on the map drawers. Each file card drawer is 14 5/16" deep on the inside, 5 1/8" wide and 3 high.
If the wood drawer bottom inserts are removed the drawer height is 3 1/4 tall. Besides 3X5 cards these drawers are also good for postcards and baseball or sports cards. The large map drawers are 39 1/4" wide, 24 1/2" front to back and 2 high. These are all inside measurements. In the antique world brown furniture may be dead but early solid wood office furniture is ALWAYS in demand!
As long as people need storage these early office product cabinets will fit in and be in demand.
