Original antique oak 192-drawer apothecary general store cabinet. Stackable, with 4 sections top cap piece and 3 drawer sections.
Made of oak with galvanized steel inside the drawers - bottom and sides. Paneled sides on both sides; all original and in place; this was originally a freestanding cabinet and was not ever modified as a built in. The back panels are sheet metal; it is our understanding that these cabinets were originally built to be mouse proof. Original brass label holder drawer pulls on all the drawers. Though the drawers and cabinet are not marked that we can see, we believe this is a W. Heller made this type of cabinet for stores. We have a similar narrower one in our own home. In very good original vintage antique condition; all original, not missing, repaired or replaced parts. Some of the bottom drawers have some denting in the sheet metal, but all in all the drawers are in remarkably good condition. Signs of age and wear and use as expected for its age and purpose, some paint splatters from the artist. This has been used indoors in an artist's home studio in a temperature controlled first floor room, probably has been there since at least the 1960s. This has been well treated and cared for by the artist to store her multitude of tiny art supplies. It has not been kept in a basement or garage or shed.
There are 192 drawers = 112 small drawers + 60 medium size drawers + 20 large drawers --all original drawers! The bottom section is 50 1/4" across, 25 1/2" deep at the bottom trim piece; this bottom section alone is 32 3/4 high. The two top stacking sections are each 20 1/4" tall and 12 1/2" deep. The cap piece is just over 2 1/4 tall.
There are three sizes of drawers. The small are 12" x 2 15/16" wide x 1 7/8" tall; inside length is 10 1/2". The medium are 12" x 4" wide x 3 1/8" tall; inside length is 10 1/2". The large are 24" x 12" wide x 4 3/8" tall; inside length is 22 1/2". It is well constructed and it is heavy because it is made of oak, a heavier wood, and the galvanized drawers and back panels, so we do not recommend moving it with the drawers inside.
