This antique shelf is a beautiful example of Victorian aesthetics; an Eastlake hand carved hardwood clock shelf. Measuring 24 inches wide, nearly 9 inches high and 7 long. With ornate carvings and ebonized accents it is visually impressive.
It is perfect for displaying family heirlooms or treasured antique pieces. It has a drawer; probably where the clock key was stored. Eastlake is a style originally designed by Charles Eastlake; a British architect and art enthusiast. Eastlake furniture designs were accomplished by woodworking artisans devoted to craftsmanship. Eastlake pieces are obvious for their hand carved detailed geometric designs, scrolls and botanical aspects on hardwoods.
This shelf is an excellent example of American Eastlake in excellent antique condition; a rare piece of American artistry and craftsmanship. It has the original finish. There is a spot; the size of a dime, on the top left corner of the shelf. It looks like a drop of paint.
