It's a wonderful, honest country piece with tons of character and farmhouse charm. Antique country pie safe / cupboard, likely late 19th century. Upper double doors with six punched-tin panels. Hand-punched folk-art style design in each panel. Aged, oxidized surface on the tins that gives a great primitive look. Lower double doors made of vertical wood planks for enclosed storage. Simple, straightforward farmhouse construction with a flat top and straight legs. Traces of old green paint and worn natural wood showing through, giving the piece a beautiful, authentic patina. Rustic original-style hinges and wooden turn latches (see photos for details) This cupboard would be perfect in a farmhouse kitchen, dining room, entryway, or as display/storage in a primitive or country-style home.
The punched tins were originally used to let air circulate around pies and baked goods while keeping pests out. Condition This is a true antique and shows age-appropriate wear consistent with its use and age.
Wear, scuffs, and scratches to the wood. Paint loss, fading, and discoloration throughout. Some rust and discoloration on the punched-tin panels; one panel shows a small hole and general surface wear. Gaps, minor warping, and irregularities in the boards typical of old, hand-made furniture. Hardware, hinges, and latches show wear and oxidation.
