KOREAN BLACK LACQUER SIDEBOARD LOW CABINET SET PAIR MOTHER OF PEARL INLAY ANTIQE. Up for your consideration is this Absolutely Beautiful Pair of Matching Antique Korean Black Lacquer Low Cabinets with Real Mother of Pearl Inlay. These are completely handmade ONE OF A KIND high quality pieces that were most likely made around the 1920's in Korea. It was easier to picture them stacked however they are meant to be used separatley both on the ground.
They are in all original condition with very minor issues from age so please read the condition carefully and ask any questions. These Pair of low cabinets / sideboards are heavily decorated with multiple color varieties of mother of pearl inlay featuring scenes of fawn, flora, and exotic phoenix birds that cover almost every surface of the front. The colors of the Mother-of-Pearl change throughout the day depending on how the light falls on them. When the sunlight hits them, they reflect a beautiful array of colors.Although the piece looks heavy, each cabinet is lightweight (may be made of traditional palownia wood that Korean furniture is historically made of). Each cabinet has 2 bi-fold doors with barrel locks so if these locks are in place you are able to open the 2 center doors to access your items. The interior features a dark red lacquered finish (almost brown) that matches the interior of the 4 drawers above.
A huge inlayed buckle type latch secures the doors in the center and the drawers have similar inlayed square pulls. This is an INCREDIBLE 2 piece that you will admire for years to come. We also have a low vanity with mirror and 3 Story Wedding Chest that match this set. Plus many other decorative Asian items available so please take a look and let us know if you are interested in multiple pieces. It can be viewed and/or Picked Up at the Furniture Doctor Shop in Fox Lake IL 60020.

INFO : The process to create these beautiful works of art is intricate and time consuming. Its starts by drawing the scene on paper. Then thin layers of the inside of mother of pearl are peeled from the inside of shells and placed over a sheet of wax paper then glued together at the edges making a thin sheet of mother of pearl. Wax paper goes over that and then another layer of mother of pearl. They may make as many as 10 layers stacked on top of each other to form a block. The original drawing is then glued over the top piece of wax paper. Then the incredibly intricate work starts by cutting each line of the drawing with a very fine tooth saw until each individual piece is cut away from the main block of shells. Once they have been cut into individual pieces they are placed onto the black lacquer surface and then a clear coat is applied on top of them.
