100+ year old Reproduction of a 16th Century Italian Renaissance Cabinet or Credenza. American-made by Elgin A Simonds. Old ads for this company state that they made'faithful reproductions of period furniture'. This is a 16th Century Italian Renaissance style piece. The maker, Elgin A Simonds was partners with Gustav Stickley in another furniture company in the 1890s. The label for Elgin A Simonds Furniture Company of Syracuse NY can be seen in the drawer see last photo. It is a wax stamp so it was difficult to get a good photo. The cabinet is decorated with arched painted panels that depict an Italian landscape scene at a fountain with people filling vessels and the sea is seen in the background. The painted arched panels are framed by half-turned pillars. The cabinet doors are flanked by square columns with carved Bird of Paradise motifs above reeded bun feet. Behind the cabinet doors is a single shelf with adjustable height (2 options). CONDITION: There is a scratch and some wear on the table top. The backboard was cut out from the shelf area and the legs were cut off, making it shorter. Shortened from a taller cabinet more than 60 years ago.

One of the knobs on the drawer has a repair: A small piece broke off and was glued back on. There is also a decorative little piece of wood (a decorative bracket) missing from under the edge of the side of the table-top. There is a gouge on the inside edge of the drawer on both sides of the drawer that is slightly visible when the drawer closed.
