AAFA ANTIQUE EARLY FOLK ART 1800 STEPBACK CUPBOARD SQUARE NAILS BOOTJACK. Up for sale is this wonderful old primitive step back cupboard. It's a large-sized four-door cabinet with a drawer. It's all ONE piece, it is not two pieces. There are two doors on the top part and two doors on the bottom part.

The top part has two shelves and the bottom part has one shelf. Inside it's painted a nice yellow including the insides of the doors. The cabinet measures 73.5" H x 47.75" W middle widest part x 17 D at the middle deepest part. And it is 11" D at the top part of the cabinet and 15" D at the bottom part of the cabinet. Most of the wood on the cabinet (main parts) is almost 1 thick!

It's a wonderful natural oak (looks like Eastern white oak to us) wood with the richness of some patina from age. Along a lot of the edges, including on the insides of the inset panels of the doors, you can see some old green paint. The cabinet may have been painted at one point. The paint is not obtrusive or obvious but is there.

The wood does not feel "sanded", in fact it feels just slightly rough, so we don't think anything was done to the cabinet / paint in a very long time. If it could only talk! The back is made from five pieces of wood as you can see in the pictures. The boards are big and you can see the chamfers toward the outsides of the cabinets. On the chamfers you can see where they hand hew the wood.

You can also see the big square nails that are throughout the cabinet. On the doors have old Shaker style hinges and each door has a little wooden pull. Around the door pulls on the top and bottom there are holes where you can see that there was other hardware at some point. Between the top and bottom doors there is a nice, big drawer. There is a small crack in the bottom of the drawer but it is still stable / sturdy. Along the left of the drawer there is something horizontal. We're not sure if this is an imperfection in the wood or something caused the marks.

The sides, at the bottom has small bootjacks as you can see. The top is wood and is also not painted. It has a lot of wear, drips, marks and patina. This is everything you'd expect to see from an old survivor cabinet like this! It's in very good shape for its age!

The cabinet has some places where you can see leftover green paint here and there as mentioned above. There is some patina, fading and variation of color. Please see photos for accurate detail and description.

The pictures are pretty good for the color, especially the close up ones. It's a great old cabinet / cupboard!! We can also recommend a couple of shippers.
