A beautiful 1930s/40s piece of British retail heritage. This early to mid 20th-century 51-drawer double cabinet was originally used in a draper's shop in north London and remained in commercial use until the mid-1990s.

It was sourced in 1999 from Castle Gibson, formerly of Upper Street in Islington. Approximate overall dimensions: 182 cm high, 160 cm wide, and 52 cm deep. The unit dismantles into three manageable sections for easier transport and installation. Constructed from mahogany and oak, the cabinet is formed of three separate sections: a base unit with three deep drawers, each fitted with original reversed-cup brass handles; a middle section with 24 pull-out drawers behind glazed sliding doors; and an upper section with a further 24 drawers. The glazed doors sit on their original Chasmood tracking system and are easily removable for cleaning. Each door retains its original brass lock. Vertical brass strips run down each outer edge of the cabinet-a rare and distinctive feature of the original construction.

The 48 pull-out drawers are practical and generously sized for storing shoes, clothing, or accessories, measuring approximately 23 cm wide, 45 cm deep, and 14.5 cm high. The three lower and larger drawers measure approximately 50 cm wide, 51 cm deep, and 22 cm high. The cabinet is complete and unrestored, with all original glass, hardware, and fittings intact. It shows clear signs of age and use, including surface marks, scratches, and some old repairs-consistent with its working life in a commercial setting. I have owned it for 25 years and have kept it in its original condition.

These signs of wear are part of its character and charm. Restoration can be arranged if preferred. Please don't hesitate to request additional photos. Viewings are welcome by appointment.
