AAFA ANTIQUE EARLY FOLK ART ORIGINAL AMERICAN STEPBACK CUPBOARD PIE SAFE RARE! Up for sale is this wonderful old primitive step back cupboard. It's a large-sized two-door cabinet with two drawers. It's all ONE piece, it is not two pieces. There are two doors on the bottom part and they both have old Shaker style hinges that were painted at some point.

The top part has two shelves (three areas) and the bottom part has one shelf. In between the top and the bottom are two big drawers with cuphandle drawer pulls. Inside the cabinet is not painted, nor is the top or left side. It's a very nice putty color paint, it's gorgeous!

This cabinet is a big statement piece and a rare find! The cabinet measures 85.25" H x 50.5" W x 17.25" D at the bottom part and 13.25" D at the top part. The screens are 14" W x 26.75" H.

The left Drawer is 28.25" W x 11" D x 8.25" H and the right drawer is 13.75" W x 10.25" D x 8.25" H. The wood is 3/4 thick. It's a wonderful soft putty color paint with slight wood-colored undertones and lots patina from age. If only it could talk! The back is made from five pieces of wood as you can see in the pictures. You can see some of the very small, rusty, round nails on the back. Around the top of the cabinet is a crown molding and below that is a little dental decor with little pieces of wood. The top shelves have spots and rings and general marks, nicks, stains and patina as you'd expect from years of use.

Inside the shelves on the left side are two places where the mice appear to have wanted to get in. On the bottom shelf there's a little tin repair made to try to stop the little suckers. The drawers are pretty clean inside and are very generous in their capacities. The cuphandles on the drawers are painted, worn, and patina-ed.

On the small shelf between the drawers on top and the bottom part there's a lot of wear from the drawers sliding in and out and some grunge from stuff sitting there. The doors below have what appear to be the original rusty screens on them. The screens are bowed in a little and the right screen has some tears in it. There are metal thumbturns on each door and old rusty handles. Inside the shelves are not painted and there are again repairs inside to keep critters out.

These repairs were made with old Sir Walter Raleigh metal cigarette cases. At the base there's a piece of wood around the bottom of the cabinet and this has paint loss with red undertones and lots of edgewear.

On the back, on the right side at the bottom there's some rot in the bottom of the board and the wood tends to flake some there if you mess with it. This is everything you'd expect to see from an old survivor cabinet like this!

It's in very good shape for its age! There is patina, fading, nicks, scrapes, edgewear, grunge, and variation of color in the paint. Please see photos for accurate detail and description. The pictures are pretty good for the color, especially the close up ones.
